Happy Rare Disease Day everyone! That does seem like an odd thing to say, but we celebrate the things that define our lives and for those of us that have a rare disease, it certainly plays a significant part in it. The day also raises awareness, tolerance and understanding.
How will you celebrate Rare Disease Day?!
This is a special day all over the world and it’s recognized in various ways…
- The Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders (CORD) is holding their 5th annual Rare Disease Day Conference in Toronto.
- Genzyme again recognizes International Rare Disease Day with Global Awareness Programs and launch of their Third Annual Patient Advocacy Leadership (PAL) Awards.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank CORD for their tireless work in what has ultimately brought the announcement late in 2012 of the Canadian Government Orphan Drug Framework. It’s a step along the path, but there are still people in Canada that don’t have access to the same healthcare that others do. This must be fixed.
